Isla de Lobos is located approx 4 hours by car from the elegant, never sleeping beauty, Buenos Aires and approx 3,5 hours from Uruguay's capital Montevideo. Nearest cities are Dolores and Mercedes, approx 25 & 40 km respectively. The nearest village is the historic Villa Soriano, at the shore of the Rio Negro, approx 3 km by boat. The present owners enjoy crossing from Buenos Aires to Isla de Lobos by speed-boat.

The other half of the island is kept natural, partially flood-land, for indigenous fauna and flora. During flooding's the cattle move to higher land and during dry times there is always sufficient food in the wetlands. Cattle are transported with a simple pontoon (called Huckleberry Finn) with an outboard engine. The horses of the Estancia are utilised by the Gauchos for their daily ride to check the cattle and serve for fun horse-back riding through the campo and on the long, private sand beach. Due to its unique location, away from pollution, honey of export quality can be produced.
